Shuttle SG33G5M - Power consumption Print E-mail

Shuttle SG33G5M with graphics card Asus EN8500GT + PC62 PSU

The PC62 PSU is advertised as a 200 Watt noiseless power supply. Because a graphics card can consume a lot of power nowadays I was very interested in the combined power consumption of Shuttle SG33G5M + Asus EN8500GT graphics card. The Asus card is rated as a system with 'low power consumption' of about 40 Watts. On several websites you can read that a 400 Watt PSU is necessary. Is this true? No...

Measurements show that the Asus 8500GT is really a low power consumption graphics card!

Thanks to a new Voltcraft Energy Check 3000 I have a nice impression of the power consumption of the computer + PC62 PSU.

During startup of the computer I saw peaks of 115 Watt.

  • system idle: about 75 Watt
  • system + blu-ray playback from blu-ray disc (cpu-load about 35%): 91 - 96 Watt
  • system + blu-ray playback from external harddisc (cpu-load about 35%): 89 - 94 Watt

I think it's safe to state that the PC62 PSU with its high efficiency rate is an excellent choice for the Shuttle SG33G5M + Asus EN8500G graphics card.
